I'M LEAVING YOU (I THINK..)

Late nights, we fight,
We turn off the lights, with things not right,
I‘ve had enough,,
At 3am, I’m getting up,

I can’t lie there,
Beside you,
This storybook fairytale,
Is so untrue,

And I’m leaving you,
With my life ahead of me,
I trot out the house happily,
With my keys and my drink,
And I’m leaving you,
I’m leaving you,
I think…

I’m packing my bags,
I’m grabbing my coat,
I’m pushing the pain down,
Clearing lumps from my throat,

I take another look and pause,
I grab my keys,
Headed for the door,
Hoping you’ll run yelling please..

And I’m leaving you,
With my life ahead of me,
I trot out the house happily,
With my keys and my drink,
And I’m leaving you,
I’m leaving you,
I think…

I refuse to let you win,
This pain won‘t last long,
Plus, I’m ready to dance,
To the beat of another song,

And there you stand,
Arms reaching out to the wind,
With words that utter,
Can we try this thing again?

And I’m leaving you,
With my life ahead of me,
I trot out the house happily,
With my keys and my drink,
And I’m leaving you,
I’m leaving you,
I think…

  3. As always I love your poetry and part of it is because we , or at least I have been in that position in my near 80 years. I have found myself in that same position and I feel that it could be me in that room, going through a divorce, a marriage that only lasted 5 years and then he died. We were both 37 at that time. This marriage will last till one of us die and it will be 43 years if we make it that long. Your expressions seem to parallel what my life has been. feel all of the emotions you describe. I have been in but not made comments all the time. ou write what real life is about. Thank toy.

  4. I agree with the three previous comments;your writing is really wonderful. The repetition allows for a natural rhythm. The poems you write tell a story in the moment, which helps the reader feel as if it is all happening before their eyes.

    This could be a song,perhaps?
    Thanks for sharing,G.

    Much love,

  5. Hi Lucciano:)

Amazing poem, carefully crafted with vivid pictures painted with words.

I look at this poem with two meanings.Perhaps it depicts the true life situation in many peoples lives. But it also contains a lesson to all of us as to what happens when two people can't get along and the need to make sincere efforts by both to understand, appreciate, and be grateful for each others company.

In most cases, we take the other for granted and we don't respect each other. The result is that the love which was originally there goes out of the window and venomous enmity prevails. Ego plays a big role in each others attitude and a point is reached when both can't stand the sight of each other.Your words echo in my mind:

    I can’t lie there,
    Beside you,
    This storybook fairytale,
    Is so untrue.

Again there is not guarantee that a person who leaves will find happiness with another person. Everything is a fairy tale in the beginning. But only time will tell what will happen later. People who are married and having children beak up because they can't get along with each other. The children suffer. So when you say the following lines, I think you want to impart a lesson that before breaking up all efforts should made for reconciliation:

    And there you stand,
Arms reaching out to the wind,
    With words that utter,
Can we try this thing again?

After all this could be only a wishful thinking and may not happen because the other person will also dance happily to a different tune.

I enjoyed this lovely poem or rather a song with a chorus which speaks of reality and a lesson for couples who enter into a relationship what will happen if they can't get along.

    Have a lovely day Lucciano:)
